History of the Chapter

First Chapter Meeting...

On January 19, 2001 eleven Alpha Phi alumnae living in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts gathered at the home of Kim Norton-O'Brien to meet face-to-face for the first time and sign the petition for the Rhode Island Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Phi's charter. These devoted sisters represented seven collegiate chapters nationwide and a wide range of ages and interests. During the evening, an events calendar was set, much Alpha Phi reminiscing was done and sisters ended the festivities by toasting each other and their newly formed chapter. They knew there was so much more to come...

Charter Granted!
On March 8, 2001 the chapter was granted its charter by the International Executive Board of Alpha Phi and then International President Jean Cameron Tindall and Executive Director Pamela Wilcox. The chapter was on its way!

The Chapter Grows...
Each year since its inception in 2001 the chapter has grown to include many new members and it boasts one of the highest active member percentages of any alumnae chapter in Alpha Phi. At little more than a year old, it was the youngest chapter ever to receive the "Most Outstanding Alumnae Chapter" award when it was given by Alpha Phi to Rhode Island at Convention 2002. The chapter has also been awarded the coveted Martha Mast Award by the Alpha Phi Foundation for exemplary fundraising and philanthropic education on more than one occasion.

The Rhode Island Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Phi each year strives to exceed its goals of providing outstanding programming, networking and philanthropy opportunities to local Alpha Phi alumnae. The bond we share with each other and offer to our alumnae sisters is truly special.
